## Why This Site Exists
South African universities do not use one APS formula. Wits uses an 8-point scale
with subject bonuses. UJ, UP and DUT exclude Life Orientation entirely. UKZN and
NWU use a 1-8 scale out of 48. TUT drops any subject scored below 30% out of the
calculation altogether. UNISA counts English plus five other subjects. Stellenbosch
uses the TPT, a percentage aggregate. NMU uses an Applicant Score out of 600 with a
quintile equity bonus, not an APS at all. UCT uses a per-faculty Faculty Points
Score. Generic "APS calculators" produce wrong numbers
because they apply one formula to every institution. Every calculator on aps.guide
implements the specific method the named university publishes, and shows a
per-subject breakdown so the result is auditable.

## Data Accuracy
- Every university's method is implemented from its own published admission
  requirements, cited on the university's page with a source title and date.
- Methods are re-verified each admission cycle. Each page shows a "Last updated" date.
- Admission thresholds (faculty and programme minimums) are not published unless
  verified against an official prospectus. Unverified numbers are never invented.
