How Wits calculates APS
Wits scores your best 7 subjects (Life Orientation included) on a weighted 8-point scale. English and Mathematics earn +2 at 60% and above (capped at 10); Life Orientation uses its own column capped at 4.
- Best 7 subjects, INCLUDING Life Orientation.
- Ordinary subjects: 90-100% = 8, 80-89% = 7, 70-79% = 6, 60-69% = 5, 50-59% = 4, 40-49% = 3, below 40% = 0.
- English & Mathematics: +2 at 60% and above (so 8/9/10 in the top bands, capped at 10). Mathematical Literacy uses the ordinary column - no bonus.
- Life Orientation: its own column - 4 / 3 / 2 / 1 down to 60%, then 0.
- Note the hard drop: 40-49% scores 3, but 30-39% scores 0.
- Faculty-required subjects must be included; Further Studies subjects count.

Minimum APS by faculty
Faculty and programme minimums are being verified per faculty from official prospectuses and will land in a later stage. Meeting a minimum never guarantees admission - programmes are competitive and use additional criteria.
